Woodstock Welcomes #SickNotWeak-Stock Guests

"When you talk about it enough it is no longer this taboo forbidden thing, and maybe, just maybe if you do that people will reach out"

WOODSTOCK - It promises to be an emotional evening in Woodstock as TSN personality and founder of #SickNotWeak Michael Landsberg is in town.

He is bringing some friends with him to talk about suicide, depression, and anxiety. Joining him is Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, Woodstock's own Emily Serviss, Singer Songwriter Scott Hellman, MMA fighter Sam Stout, and Olympic Silver Medallist Rachelle Viinberg just to name a few.

Landsberg tells Heart FM why he thinks it is important to talk about mental illness and face these diseases head on.

"When you talk about it enough it is no longer this taboo forbidden thing, and maybe just maybe if you do that people will reach out because they won't feel embarrassed or ashamed. You need to convince people that the whole BS about the stigma is wrong - mental illness is not weakness, mental illness is a physical illness of the brain, no different than Parkinson's."

Landsberg talks about the reaction he typically gets when he reaches out to youth about these subjects.

"A lot of looks on their faces that they don't want to give it up so to speak because we still live in this world that kids are embarrassed or ashamed and you start to crack this shell that's outside of them and hopefully they start to open up but the bottom line is we still have to educate the parents."

Tickets to the free event at the Woodstock District Community Complex are almost sold out. They might still have a few left and you can find out how to get your hands on one online here
