97th Calithumpian Weekend

The 97th Calithumpian promises to be a busy - but fun - weekend in Thamesford

THAMESFORD - Residents of Thamesford are ready to lose their heads over the Calithumpian for another year.

President of the Calithumpian Weekend Andrea Wright says they took the name from a rather morbid source and made it a reason to celebrate."It was a parade and a party after a beheading. Originally when Calithumpian first started, you know way, way back it just started out as a parade. And then they would have a beer tent right after the parade. So that's kind of where the name came from. And then it just kind of escalated into what we have now from starting on Friday and going until Monday with events all weekend."

This is the 97th year for the Calithumpian, and it promises to be a busy one. Wright says its hard to keep track of all the goings on. "Just check the flyer because we have so much going on and so many local groups are putting things on. There is stuff going on all weekend. The flyer is the best thing to do: everybody says that's their bible for the weekend. They just kind of live off of that. There's lots of fundraising going on, there's lot of events for the kids, which we like. The fireworks are a staple as well as the parade. So we just hope for good weather and people will come out and support everything."

The fireworks will be Sunday at dusk. Wright says there is no cost associated with the event, but donations are always appreciated. "We just take any donations as the cars are coming in. We don't have a charge per vehicle or anything like that."

The schedule can be on our events page.
