Abandoned House to be Demolished

Tear it down. That's what the city wants done with an abandoned house that has seen two suspicious fires set this year. It's been sitting at the corner of Lansdowne and Devonshire, after plans for a commercial development were defeated by city council a few years ago. There are two houses in question sitting vacant, but Chief Building Official Craig Wallace says only one has had issues with trespassing and arson. "I think the fire department and the city would like to see the house taken down for obvious reasons. There's been two fires set there. The last one did do quite a bit of damage and over the last couple of years we have had quite a few complaints about the property itself," said Wallace. Wallace has been in contact with the owner of the property. They've given the city a verbal agreement that they will tear it down. If they don't the city could take action and demolish the building, and charge it to the owners property taxes.
