Advanced Polls

Advanced polls for the municipal election are set to open Saturday for the City of Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - Starting Saturday, eligible voters in Woodstock can start casting their ballots for the municipal election through advanced polls.

Deputy Clerk Amy Humphries encourages anyone with the time to take part in the advanced polls.

"It's a really good way to avoid any lineups that you might find. On election day, the polls get very busy after about 4:30pm and like I said before, we also encourage people to check to make sure their name is on the voters list so that when they do get to the poll they can avoid any delays."

Humphries says if, for any reason, you are unable to get to a voting place on any of the available voting days to cast your ballot, you may wish to appoint someone to cast a ballot on your behalf.

"If someone can't come to the poll and would like someone to vote on their behalf, they need to fill out a form, their proxy needs to bring that form into City Hall and sign it in front of us, they then have to take the completed copy of that form to the poll with them and they will get a ballot."

Humphries says the City will be using voting tabulators this year.

"Once the advanced polls are closed, those ballot boxes are then sealed and locked into a secure room and the memory card that is in the vote tabulator that tabulates that actual vote is pulled from the vote tabulator and it is sealed with a secure seal and locked away in a secure room as well."

Humphries says the chip will not be brought back out until the polls have closed on Election night and then the seal will be broken and the results read for the first time.
