The hospital has already surpassed the half point of their $50,000 fundraising goal.
INGERSOLL - The Alexandra Hospital in the Town of Ingersoll is looking to raise just over $50,000 for a new Hematology Analyzer.
They have already surpassed the half way mark of their fundraising goal, bringing in just over $30,000 so far. The Haematology Analyzer is used in the lab to complete a blood count or CBC. It can evaluate the cells that circulate in blood to include white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.
This can help to provide an overall picture of the health of a patient and can detect a variety of diseases and conditions from infections (sepsis, appendicitis), anemia (low hemoglobin), to leukemia (blood cancer).
The new analyzer will replace a current piece of equipment that is 8 years old and outdated. Analyzers are usually replaced every 5-7 years.
Last year the Hospital was able to analyze nearly 7,000 samples in house.
