The bottle drive for 3 year old Hunter Weston who is the hospital recovering from cancer raised around $10,000 and they almost filled 3, 53 foot trailers with empties.
INGERSOLL - The Bottle drive for 3 year old Hunter Weston and his family from Ingersoll has raised over 10,000 dollars in cash and they almost filled three transport trailers with bottles.
They are still counting all of the bottles as we speak. The bottle drive was started by a family friend in Delaware Mike Rombouts and then the donations were pouring in from all over Oxford County at locations in Woodstock, Norwich and Ingersoll. They even had Transport Trailers set up at the Canadian Tire parking lot in Ingersoll to collect donations.
Hunter's Aunt Sarah Greenfield says they are blown away by the support.
"We are so grateful for the love and support we have received from the community. We can't thank everybody enough, it has been overwhelming emotionally and we are just so thankful. We couldn't have asked for anything better, it exceeded our expectations tremendously. We have so many people to thank for all of the donations, whether it be cash or bottles, my dads old boss Lawrence Beckett, he gave us his trailer to use. Proust Transport in Mount Elgin donated the use of their tractor trailers, Ingersoll Canadian Tire for letting us park down there, Dominoes Pizza in Ingersoll donated pizza to us yesterday for everybody who was working. We want to thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts."
Greenfield says Hunter is currently in the hospital recovering from his first round of chemo, he has had one surgery and will need another after chemo.
"The last update I got on Hunter was from Friday and he is doing good in the hospital, he is finally eating again which is great news, he was in great spirits, he was playing and we got to see those smiles again which we haven't seen in a long time, so that was great for sure, he is in the best place possible, the team up there is amazing, we are hopeful the chemo is working and that he can come home soon."
Hunter will need to chemotherapy for another 4 months, and then they will see if the tumour has shrunk and if he needs more chemo or another surgery.
