The Woodstock Accessibility Advisory Committee presented their thoughts on recommendations for the Paratransit services to City Council Thursday night. Councillors reviewed and voted on four different proposed modifications. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski summarized the recommendations; "paratransit as required by the province, the paratransit vans must operate the same as regular city buses; number two was that we go ahead and put out a request for a dispatcher; number three related to the application process and than the fourth recommendation was just the policies and procedures that are associated with the paratransit program". Councillors voted in favour of a Request for Proposal to implement a single dispatch service. And with roughly 400 community members utilizing the service, council looked at a recommendation to have an alternative provider. "we average between 150 to 200 rides a day for people who are in the program. Paratransit vehicles, the regular buses, they'll probably be able to handle will say 100 of them. So obviously there's excess number have to be handled by another carrier. And so therefore, that is probably where the local taxis will come in, they will handle the overflow". The city also recently purchased two new buses to help with the demand of the Paratransit services. With these changes, the revised application form would require all registered applicants to complete only Part A of the form to maintain their eligibility.
