"Although the announcement focuses on areas that can be reopened, many people didn't focus on the fact that it is also stated that all requirements of public health must be maintained."
INGERSOLL - The Mayor of Ingersoll is asking residents to be patient as they get set to enter into Stage 2 on Friday and open the splash pad.
Ted Comiskey says the Town of Ingersoll asks everyone for patience as they move cautiously towards reopening.
"The Province recently announced a number of municipal services that are allowed to be reopened, that announcement came as a surprise to the municipalities and we are rapidly trying to understand what we are allowed to do and what we are required to do. Although the announcement focuses on areas that can be reopened, many people didn't focus on the fact that it is also stated that all requirements of public health must be maintained."
Comiskey says some of those requirements make it difficult to reopen services and some make it impossible depending on the facility, location and staffing requirements.
"Council in the Town of Ingersoll has chosen to open the splash pad and have directed staff to figure out how to do that safely for our community. Many on council feel that opening this one service will be a good trial run to determine our ability to reopen services while not jeopardizing the health of our constituents."
He adds they understand many people want to return to normal.
"Council and staff are tasked with ensuring we move towards normality safely, please bear with us and understand if we move cautiously it is out of an abundance of concern for our residents. The Town of Ingersoll residents have been great, please be patient with us in allowing us to open our facilities as safely and as soon as possible."
