The 'East Recreation Complex' in Woodstock officially has a name - Cowan Fields will open in May.
WOODSTOCK - The East Recreation Complex on Devonshire Ave officially has a name.
The city has entered into a 20 year naming rights agreement with the Cowan Foundation to name the complex Cowan Fields. One of the three ball diamonds on the property has also been dubbed the Hank Roy Diamond.
Councillor Sandra Talbot tells Heart FM the former Cowan Insurance Vice President was an active member in the Woodstock Community.
"We ran a golf tournament along with others and he didn't really want it to be a Cowan thing it was more trying to go for a County thing. In the end we raised a lot of money for the Woodstock Hospital. That was him - he would go out and do these little projects and encourage people."
Roy was also a big fan of baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Emma Vondervoort, the city's Supervisor of Recreation Programs, Grants, and Sponsorship says the public will be able check out the new complex in the next couple of weeks.
"The grand opening is on May 1st which is really exciting; there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony. So that will be a really good event that hopefully the public comes down to see the opening of the park. The park has lots to offer more than just the ball diamonds: there's the park, splash pad, and trails that are going to be there as well so it's going to make a big difference in our community."
