A blue Kia Soul caught fire on Dundas Street, while the driver was taking it to the dealership for some maintenance and a recall. No one was hurt.
WOODSTOCK - No one was hurt after an SUV went up in flames in the Friendly City.
The Woodstock Fire Department was called out to the parking lot of the Starlight Variety Store on Dundas Street yesterday afternoon.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods explains what happened.
"The individual had actually been taking their vehicle out to Kia for some maintenance and a recall. They saw some smoke, so they were able to get over to a safe area and exit the vehicle safely."
She adds the responding firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
"It only took about 15 minutes to get it under control and then we made sure we were completely soaking it so there was no chance of it rekindling."
The front end of the vehicle was completely burnt out in the end.
Woods says the driver did the right thing when they noticed the smoke yesterday.
"If you notice something pull over to the side of the road, exit the vehicle, and call 911. Don't go hunting for an extinguisher in your car, if you happen to have one that's great if it's easy to access, but otherwise, you need to get out because fires happen very quickly."
