Day of Caring Returns

17 workplaces will be taking part in the United Way Day of Caring on June 4th

OXFORD COUNTY - A community wide event by the United Way is prepared to once again take place in Oxford County to recognize International Day of Caring.

Thursday June 4th, 15 projects will take place throughout the county that will solely be completed by volunteers and more are always welcome.

Campaign Manager with the United Way Shelley Lachapelle  explains in detail what Day of Caring means to the United Way. "A Day of Caring is a unique initiative that has been bringing local workplaces and not-for profit organizations together to complete much needed projects since 2006. It is a Day to help volunteers understand the needs in our community and to volunteer and give up their time to make change happen in Oxford County."

Numerous projects are planned in Woodstock, Ingersoll, and Tillsonburg with the hope that 2015 will be just as successful as it was when the initiative launched nearly a decade ago. Lachapelle spoke to Heart FM to describe the feeling volunteering will provide for the Day of Caring. "It truly gives you the opportunity to participate in meaningful projects that help change lives. It is a day about working together. It is about project planning, team building, community awareness, and it really does give you an opportunity to see the difference that volunteering makes in just one day."

Lachapelle explains what is set to be built in Woodstock and how many projects are set to completed. "We have several different projects all across Oxford County. A project that we are going to be doing at the Southgate Centre - everybody is going to come together and you know what, we are going to build that gazebo. In total we have 15 projects that day throughout Oxford County."  According to Lachapelle 17 workplaces will be taking part on June 4th that will result in approximately 120 volunteers. You can also do your part by donating money to support International Day of Caring.
