Grocery shopping can be a tough task if you?re looking for the healthiest choices. And as Registered Dietitian Julie McConkey- Barks says, even more important if you?re diabetic. That?s why the Tillsonburg Hospital?s Diabetes Education Program hosted a tour through Sobey?s to give their patients a visual of what they should be buying. McConkey- Barks says it?s an eye-opening experience: "I think a lot of people are surprised by just exactly what is out in the grocery store and what's available. And how much sodium and how much fat is in a product and 'oh yes' I can read a label, it isn't that difficult." Reta Meloche has diabetes and found the tour quite helpful, "It was very informative, and we got more knowledge on the products, which different ones we can use and why. I like the 'why' were suppose to use that one and not another one, which was confusing to me before." This was the first tour put on by the program, with hopes that one will run every month.
