How To Stop a Dump

OPAL looking to host an educational conference entitled 'How to Stop a Dump'

INGERSOLL - Oxford People Against The Landfill are hoping that a conference they planned won't be needed. OPAL presented to Ingersoll council a plan to host an educational conference titled: How to Stop a Dump. The two day conference would invite the public to attend and learn ways they can get involved in stopping landfills. Chair of OPAL Bryan Smith said he is hoping the conference won't be necessary, "well this is a conference that we are spending a lot of time organizing and we are hoping in fact that all of our work will be in vain, because our conference is called how to stop a dump and we're really hoping that the Minister of the Environment will have already stopped it, that Glen Murray will have said "no."

The conference has been set for May 1st and the 2nd in Ingersoll. The event will include a special film screening on the Friday followed by keynote addresses on the Saturday and workshops.

The film Trashed featuring Jeremy Irons will be shown on the first day of the conference. OPAL approached Ingersoll council to take part in the conference and help publicize the event. So far the Oxford Coalition for Social Justice, Transition to Less Waste, OPAL and the Town of Ingersoll are listed as sponsors.
