Ingersoll Community Rallies Around St. James Anglican Church

A local church is overwhelmed by the support from the community after making National Headlines in the Turkey Pot Pie Heist.

INGERSOLL - The St James Anglican Church in Ingersoll is overwhelmed by the support from the community after making National Headlines in the Turkey Pot Pie Heist.

Media outlets from across Canada picked up on the story of how 200 homemade turkey pot pies were stolen from the church freezer. The pies were made by church members to sell to the community to support a number of charities for the church. Reverend Meghan Nicolls tells Heart the support from the community after this story made headlines has been overwhelming.

"A lot of people were shocked that something like this could happen in a small community like Ingersoll and somebody coming into our community and doing this really violated, not our only our church but our community and so a lot of people were outraged by this and from that have shown incredible support to make things right. A Facebook page was created called replace the pies and it has brought together volunteers and donations of turkeys, vegetables and other ingredients to make new pies. We recognize that each organization in our community, each church and different charity, we all support each other and when one of us is violated like this, the rest of us stand together to support one another. We are so overwhelmed and filled with gratitude by the outcry of support that has been given to us."

A company out of Toronto called the Pie Blessing has also donated 100 Turkey and Beef pot pies to help fill their freezer. Nicolls says a lot of good has come out of this theft.

"A lot of blessings have come out of this and we are constantly checking things online and seeing the support through Facebook and social media and we are just overwhelmed with the support we have received. It's something to be said about a community that really bands together when something like this happens."

On Tuesday Oxford OPP arrested 33 year old Stephen Forget and charged him with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Police did not find any of the pies in tact, however they did find a number of empty wrappers.
