Inside Look at Pittock Dam Repairs

The Upper Thames made some recent repairs to Pittock Dam. The flood control gates had a few spots of corrosion and even a small hole. But it wasn't a huge concern, according to UTRCA Spokesperson Steve Sauder, who says they spend about $40,000 a year on this type of maintenance to keep the dam in top shape. Sauder says what might strike you funny is what is causing the corrosion. "Believe it or not the main culprit of that was, it was down on the lower part of the gate, pigeons who sit there soil that area and then you get that corrosion in that area. So we needed to fix that," said Sauder. Click here for a video produced by the Upper Thames that gives an inside look into the dam. One of the maintenance workers strapped a go-pro camera to his hard hat as he was lowered down into the dam.
