WOODSTOCK - A 15 year old singer, songwriter from Woodstock is hoping to be the next big thing.
Anna Belleth started writing her own music when she was just 11 years old.
"I was starting at a new school and at the time, in grade 6, I was really into Elvis and my parents would show me things about Elvis, they got me a ukulele and that night I learned the song Hallelujah and I think that night I found my voice and found something I connected with. I just kept playing and playing and then I thought, why don't I try to write something, it was terrible at first but at least I didn't have to play cover songs. When I turned 13, I think got more serious about my writing and I wanted to learn more and more about music."
She also plays the piano and guitar and she composes all of her music. Anna says she writes her songs from the perspective of a teenage.
"I write my songs about my youth, I like to write about what kids are going through, so I can make adults aware of what it is like to be a teenager, eventually my goal is to the show the world what our world is like and maybe change people's lives through my music and help them understand."
Anna is currently competing in the CBC Searchlight competition with her song Bring it On.
"I wanted to write something that's powerful, that's strong to me, so the song is little bit about myself and I felt like I was coming back, so I wrote it about going back into school, school really isn't my thing, I had a rough year in grade 9 and I wanted to write something to show everyone that I am going to be there and I am ready for this."
You can find a link to her song online here and you can vote for her every day on multiple devices until February 13th.
Here is a link to vote for her and you can search for Anna under her stage name Anna B.
The grand prize of CBC Searchlight includes the Allan Slaight Juno Master Class and Juno Awards experience, a week in a recording studio at the National Music Centre in Calgary and a chance to perform at the 2020 CBC Music Festival.
