Local Woman Awarded for Saving a Life

An Ingersoll woman that helped save a boy's life this summer by performing CPR is being recognized. Susy Keenan (on left) was at the Lake Whittaker Conservation Area near the start of July when it happened. "My youngest daughter, granddaughter, and I went up to the pool there. We were there maybe five minutes when I heard someone say 'call 9-1-1,'" said Keenan. She then went over to the side of the pool where an eleven year old boy lay unconscious. She says this is when she announced that she had just received CPR training in her workplace. First Aid coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross Kelly Farrell (on right) awarded Keenan with the Rescuer Award for her efforts. "To get a Rescuer Award from the Canadian Red Cross you have to save a life. You can't be in that profession either. So if we give one to emergency services you have to be off duty. Susy is neither: she's just a regular person going about her life and recognized an emergency and jumped in to help," said Farrell. Only 22% of Ontarians are currently certified.
