The Norwich Merchants players and executives held a special tribute to Bryne "Doc" Wise on Friday night.
NORWICH - The Norwich Merchants held a candlelight vigil during their Friday night home game.
They were paying tribute to Bryne "Doc" Wise who spent 44 years on the executive board with the merchants serving as president, vice-president, treasurer and director. President of the team Ken Gillanders tells Heart FM that Doc was an amazing guy and helped lay the foundation the hockey club prides itself on
"He's always been a guy to lend a helping hand, never did it for any glory, or any recognition but did it for the love of the hockey team and the love of the hockey players and he always did it with the team members in mind and was always willing to lend a helping hand."
Wise passed away on October 4th. Gillanders says they had the players skate with candles in the dark and they brought out his family for a special ceremony on Friday night.
"A candle light vigil for Bryne with his family in attendance and their blessing. We wanted the players to be involved and the players wanted to be involved which further emphasizes our feeling of family within the Merchants organization and the community. If you look on our web site you can see pictures of not just the players but the executives and close friends and family Bryne's at the ceremony."
The Merchants honoured Wise with a 7-4 victory over the Delhi Travellers. You can see photo's of the tribute on the Merchants web site here.
