Oxford County is continuing to work towards being green with the launch of a new challenge.
OXFORD COUNTY - Are you up to the Solar Challenge? Participants have a year to become net-zero for electricity.
Net Zero means that all consumed electricity is replaced by a renewable source.
In this case it will be by solar panels.
Jay Heaman, Manager of Strategic Initiatives for Oxford County talks about what participants will receive.
"And the idea is that say a year into it, after people have installed solar and established the net meter agreement with their local utility, that if they can become that zero over the course of a year there's $1000 incentive to help out."
Heaman also says that on top of the cash prize, you also gain knowledge.
"To learn about their electricity consumption, learn how to use their smart meter to their benefit, establish just how much energy they use in electricity over the course of a year and then work on strategies to reduce that by 30-50%."
You can apply to the challenge here.
