Operation Sharing Cancels Christmas Day Event

Every year about 400 people would spend Christmas Day enjoying a free buffet, Christmas gifts and Holiday cheer in the annual event hosted by Operation Sharing.

WOODSTOCK - The Operation Sharing Christmas Day event is cancelled for 2020 thanks to the pandemic.

Normally every year they offer the community a free traditional Christmas dinner with all the fixings, for anyone who many need it. Operation Sharing Executive Director and Chaplain Stephen Giuliano says this was not an easy decision.

“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we have already accepted the fact that our Christmas Day Event will need to be cancelled this year, as over 400 individuals are usually in attendance, and thus adhering to proper protocols would not be possible.”

The event had run in College Avenue United Church’s Memorial Hall in Woodstock. Giuliano says the popular event included food, volunteers and gifts.

“We usually provide lots of food and donated gifts at this event which will not be happening … this will be very sad for sure, as often times Christmas Day can be a very lonely time for individuals, and the gifts/large buffet of food will not be available.”

The pandemic has also changed the way the organization is handling Coats for Kids this year, which you can read more about online here.
