Oxford OPP are asking you to put down the phone and leave it alone. That's the message of the 2013 edition of the Distracted Driving campaign looking to eliminate all forms of distracted driving from texting, to talking on the phone, eating and drinking and even looking after children in the back seat. Media Advisor Lisa Narancsik says getting caught taking your eyes off the road comes with some hefty penalties. "If they decide to plead guilty and pay the fine, that would be a total of $155 fine. If someone decides to fight the charge for distracted driving and decided to go to court, they could face a fine of up to $500. There's not going to be any demerit points that are associated with that offence". Narancsik says drivers who endanger the lives of others could face a Careless driving charge which is 6 demerit points and a $2,00 fine or jail time. The provincial wide campaign kicks off this morning and runs until Monday April 22nd.
