"I think it's so incredibly important to celebrate women, celebrate our accomplishment, celebrate who we are and what we have to offer," said Jenilee Cook, a member of Oxford Celebrate's International Women's Day. Women are being celebrated globally today and it's no different here in Oxford. The Oxford Auditorium was the venue for one of this year's local celebration, after the event out grew its old location at the CAW Hall. Cook says that in itself supports this year's theme of "The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum." "Here in Oxford, it is just growing bigger and bigger and so I think the idea of celebrating women and our accomplishments is gaining momentum," said Cook. Cook says they came up with an award to give in recognition of the day's meaning. "We have an award called the AppreSHEation Award that is awarded to a woman or women's group that helped move women forward in Oxford County through unpaid work," said Cook. This year's winner was Tracy Kaiman. "Tracy has her own personal struggles and despite all of that she has pressed forward and made sure event like Bell of the Ball has happened and is really supportive despite all of the stuff she is going through," said Cook. The local celebration was made possible through the support of multiple agencies and individuals.
