Oxford County politicians are going to the top to stress the importance of the auto industry in Canada.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will receive letters from four Oxford dignitaries in the near future.
Warden David Mayberry, Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey, Tillsonburg Mayor Stephen Molnar, and Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch will stress the importance of Canada's automotive sector to Trudeau ahead of upcoming NAFTA negotiations.
Birtch believes the automotive trade history between Canada and America should not be forgotten.
"The special relationship with the United States has been in existence prior to the NAFTA agreement - it goes back to the auto pact of 1965 and that's something that needs to be remembered. When some of the rhetoric south of the border deals with neighbours to the south, their relationships with the neighbours to the north are a mutually beneficial situation."
Birtch adds the auto sector also plays a big role in Oxford County.
"The automotive sector benefits not only our towns and cities but all of the county as well as the rest of our region."
The letters from Birtch, Mayberry, Comiskey and Molnar will also encourage members of parliament to join the parliamentary auto caucus and become advocates for Canada's auto sector.
