Perth OPP Reminds Residents Of An International Scam

OPP say how the scam works is you'll receive a phone call from someone telling you that you've won a huge amount of cash or a new car from an international lottery, and it could be in Oxford County after several Perth East residents have called police about it.

PERTH COUNTY - Perth County OPP are warning the public about an international lottery scam making the rounds locally. 

How the scam works is someone will call you saying you have won a huge amount of cash or a new vehicle from an international lottery. Police are warning everyone, if you get a call like this to please hang up the phone, it is a scam.

Several residents in the Township of Perth East have called police about this scam and it could be in Oxford as well.

One person even fell victim to it the scam, losing almost a $1,000. The victim was told they had won millions, however to receive the funds they need to send money to the scammers. 

OPP are warning everyone that scams are on the rise and people are looking to take advantage of your vulnerability during the pandemic. 

Don't become a statistic. Fraud is a multi-billion dollar enterprise that will only stop when the scammers stop getting money, banking information or personal information. The best thing to do is to simply hang up the phone. Remember, you cannot win a lottery that you did not enter.
