Zorra Township Mayor Margaret Lupton would like to share a photo radar system with other municipalities in Oxford County.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Zorra Township Mayor Margaret Lupton would like to see photo radar systems set up in
The photo radar unit would snap a photo of a speeding driver when they pass by. Lupton says purchasing the system would be a desperate attempt to convince all drivers to follow the speed limit.
"We have been trying everything we could think of to slow down traffic, particularly in the built up areas and in some of the rural built up areas. It's frightening for people the speed that other people go through areas; around schools, churches when there are cars parked out front, through the little villages and even the main road going right through Thamesford. The speeding just goes on and on and it's not something the police can really give all of their time to."
Each photo radar unit costs approximately $250,000. Lupton would like to discuss sharing a photo radar system with other
"Our idea is if we had even just a couple to begin with to move them around the county to different locations would maybe increase their use and their value."
The county receives all of the money from speeding fines so Lupton thinks it makes sense for the county to pay for it. There is no word yet when she will approach Oxford County Council with this idea.
