Police Briefs Include a downtown fight and a Bulldog owner charged after a dog bite.

WOODSTOCK - It was another wild and wacky weekend for the Woodstock Police who responded to 143 calls for service.

Most of the calls were about collisions and police are happy to report nobody was seriously injured despite a number of crashes. Some of the more interesting calls include a stolen license plate, a dog owner was charged after a bulldog broke free of the backyard and bit someone, also police responded to a fight downtown that sent one man to the hospital.

Below is the calls for service as delivered to Heart FM from the Woodstock Police Department.

FRIDAY:

On Friday, January 29 at 1:30 a.m. Police stopped a vehicle on Dundas St. in the City of Woodstock. The 29 year old female driver was found to be driving with a suspended licence and was charged with this offence.

At 9:00 a.m. Police received a report for a stolen vehicle. Sometime overnight a 2008 Dodge Caliber with Ontario licence plate BJNL689 was stolen from a business on Main St. in the City.

At 10:15 a.m. Police received a call for a found hand gun. The homeowners purchased the home on South St. A contractor was doing renovations in the basement and when he was doing work on the ceiling he found an unloaded firearm. The investigation is continuing.

At 10:25 a.m. a two vehicle collision occurred in the area of Dundas St. and Blandford St. There weren't any injuries reported. A 68 year old man was charged.

At 11:40 a.m. a two vehicle collision occurred in the area of Dundas St. and Young St. There were injuries reported. Two people were transported to hospital. A 22 year old man was charged with careless driving. The other driver was charged with not having insurance. Approximately $4500.00 damage was reported.
At 1:30 p.m. a man attended the Zehrs grocery store on Dundas St. The suspect filled a grocery cart with food and left without paying. The male left in a vehicle. Police are continuing with their investigation.

At 3:30 p.m. there was a two vehicle collision on Dundas St. There weren't any injuries reported. The collision reporting centre is investigating

At 4:00 p.m. another two vehicle collision occurred on Chippewa. No injuries were reported. The collision reporting centre is investigating.

At 5:30 p.m. a silver mustang was driving northbound on Cedar St. at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and entered into the southbound lane. A vehicle stuck the side of the Mustang. The Mustang landed on the railway tracks. The CN Police were notified and stopped eastbound and westbound trains. Unknown injuries were reported. Both vehicles suffered severe damage. The driver of the mustang was charged with Careless driving.

At 10:20 p.m. Police stopped a 27 year old male that appeared to be intoxicated in the downtown area. The male as arrested for public intoxication for his safety. Upon further investigation Police discovered the male was breaching a court condition, was in possession of a controlled substance and resisted arrest. He was charged and held for a Bail Hearing.

SATURDAY:

On Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. Police responded to a two vehicle collision at Delatre and Drew St. There weren't injuries reported. The damage is $5000. A 65 year old man was charged with disobey stop sign.

At 2:40 p.m. another collision occurred involving three vehicles. This occurred in the area of Parkinson Road and Ferguson St. There were minor injuries reported. There was $15,000 damage. A 43 year old female was charged with Careless driving.

At 5:10 p.m. a two vehicle collision was reported in the area of Dundas St and Waterloo St. three were minor injuries and $20,000 damage. A 70 year old man was charged with Turn-not in safety.

SUNDAY:

On Sunday, January 31, 2016 shortly after midnight Police responded to a fight in the downtown area. A 21 year old male was punched in the head by an unknown male. The victim was transported to WGH as a precaution. Police are still investigating.

At 11:25 a.m. a 23 year old Woodstock man stole items from a Shoppers Drug mart. The suspect fled the area and was quickly located and arrested and charged by Police. He will appear in Court on February 23, 2016. The property was recovered and returned to the store.

At 3:30 p.m. a 52 year old man was with his dog in the area of Norwich Ave. An American Bulldog escaped his yard and attacked the owner and his dog. The victim sustained cuts to his hands and his dog was uninjured. The 29 year old American Bulldog owner was charged under the Woodstock Bylaw.

At 6:15 p.m. Police responded to a single motor vehicle that crashed in to the roundabout at Ox. Rd. 17 and HWY 59. The 65 year old male driver was having a medical issue. He was transported to hospital by ambulance.

At 11:20 p.m. Police were conducting a traffic stop when an 18 year old male was driving his vehicle and started videotaping the traffic stop. That male was stopped and charged for driving with a handheld device.
