Pride Month Fast Approaching in Oxford

Pride Month is only a few weeks away, and Oxford County Pride has lots of events planned for the month of June.

OXFORD COUNTY - The countdown is on for Oxford County Pride.

Pride Month is coming up this June but the festivities will kick off with nine different flag raising ceremonies on Friday May 31st; one for every municipality in Oxford.

President Tami Murray says their Pride Family Day will also takeover Museum Square on Saturday June 15th this year with over 50 vendors, live music, face painting, and more.

"That day is just filled with love, celebration, and community conversation. We all walk away feeling very empowered."

The Pride Dance Party will also be happening on Saturday June 15th, with Nico's Sports Bar & Grill hosting the 19-plus event.

This year's Pride Month calendar also includes the following:

- Pride Church Service at Norwich United Church on Sunday June 2nd
- Drag Bingo at Upper Thames Brewery on Wednesday June 5th (19 plus event)
- Drag Storytime at Museum Square on Saturday June 22nd
- Open Mic Night at Early Bird Coffee on Thursday June 27th
- Pride Karaoke at Joker's Crown in Ingersoll on Friday June 28th

All of the events are highlighted on the Oxford County Pride website and in this year's Pride Guide booklet. You can pick one up at your local library, municipal officer, or select businesses.

Oxford Pride is also accepting applications for the Tyrell Maas Pride Leadership Award. Murray says it's a $500 bursary for a student in Grade 11 or 12, who has exhibited outstanding service to the local Pride community.

"You can be part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community or a strong ally, the criteria isn't strict to just our community, and we encourage high school students to apply because it's a great opportunity. It's $500 towards your post secondary education or half to you, and half to a charity."

Those who are interested have until June 9th to apply online here.

Tami Murray stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday May 7th. You can listen to the full interview below:
