SAMS Error

Locals may have been impacted by a glitch which sent T-5 forms to wrong place

OXFORD COUNTY - Unless they are contacted directly, there is no way for Oxford County Human Service staff to know if anyone locally had their T-5 tax forms sent to the wrong place.

This comes after the province announced earlier this week that 720 social assistance recipients had their tax forms sent to their former trustees due to a "glitch" in the Social Assistance Management System.

Director of Human Services for the County, Paul Beaton says the forms are sent out at the provincial level.

"I wouldn't call anything to do with SAMS a glitch, it's way beyond a glitch. That's minimizing the problems with SAMS. It's not a very intuitive program. The training environment wasn't similar to the actual operating environment."

Beaton says the SAMS program continues to create headaches for staff.

Beaton says the program was rolled out on November 11 and is causing front line staff to spend the majority of their time filling out tick boxes and not spending time with their clients.
