Sunrise Farms is investing over $100,000,000 for a new plant in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - A funding announcement has been made in Woodstock.

The news was shared this morning at 11 a.m. as Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness Paul Vickers, and Woodstock Mayor Jerry Acchione were on hand. Minister Fedeli explains what the announcement was.

"Sunrise Farms is investing over $100 million to build a brand-new state-of-the-art poultry processing plant and hiring 100 new employees."

Minister Fedeli mentions why the new facility is so important.

"They have a great demand for Sargent Farms. That's their brand. And there's just no better place for them to put this."

Oxford County MPP Ernie Hardeman is excited about the news and what it will create for the County.

"Today’s announcement is a major endorsement of Oxford, our local workforce, and Ontario’s agri-food sector. Sunrise Farms’ investment will help create new jobs, strengthen our local economy, and support long-term growth in food processing and agriculture right here in our community. I want to thank Sunrise Farms for their continued commitment to our community and their confidence in the future of Oxford."

Mayor of Woodstock Jerry Acchione speaks about how Sunrise Farms and the City of Woodstock will benefit from this news.

"We’re excited to welcome Sunrise Farms to Woodstock. Their significant investment shows the advantages our city offers and will bring new jobs, strengthen our economy, and support the farmers who are the backbone of our region. This project reflects our commitment to diversifying our economy, and we’re grateful to our provincial partners for helping bring this investment to our city. It’s a perfect fit for Woodstock and a powerful example of our rural and urban strengths working together to help feed Canada."

The facility will be 155,000 square feet and bring a huge boost to the company's processing capacity, as well as increase procurement from Ontario farms and support economic growth across rural communities.
