'They Still Have Names' Event Traces Oxford's Roots in the Great War

A presentation at the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum will help you find ancestors that fought during WWI

INGERSOLL - Oxford Remembers is putting on 100 events to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the First World War.

One of those events is happening at the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. They will have a free presentation called "They Still Have Names" done by author, historian, and veteran Grant Smith. Smith recently published a book about the men and women from Norfolk and surrounding counties who gave their lives for our freedoms.

Museum Curator Scott Gillies says Smith will be talking about his book and about ways you can trace your ancestors who may have fought in the Great War. He will provide you with ways to trace the ancestors you know about and to search for the ones you might not be aware of. He adds a lot of the people featured in Smith's book are actually from Brownsville, Tillsonburg, and other parts of South-West Oxford. Smith will also lead people through the battlefields of Europe and what it was like in the those final moments of our Canadian Heroes.

This free presentation is one of the 100 activities being coordinated to mark the centennial of the First World War.
