Those Crazy Quilts is the latest exhibit to be put on at the Annandale National Historic Site in Tillsonburg. The display features a popular quilting technique from the 1880s.
TILLSONBURG - The Annandale National Historic Site in Tillsonburg has a new exhibit at their facility.
Those Crazy Quilts features a technique of quilting that became popular in the 1880s.
Collections and Exhibitions Specialist, Jen Gibson says the type of quilt is still made up to today.
"It was a time when silk was becoming less expensive and more accessible so it's a really interesting thing for your eyes to see. As well, there was a lot of embroidery on these type of quilts and women were able to show off their embroidery skills in the medium of quilting."
The quilts are made of fabric with different size pieces and also decorated with ribbons and the names of different family members.
Gibson says the quilts are only available to see for a limited time.
"It's a really great opportunity to see these quilts that don't necessarily get out in the public, get out and displayed that frequently. It's a great opportunity to be able to see them."
She adds the fabrics are so fine and fragile so the exhibit is only available for one month.
The exhibit began on August 25th and it runs until September 29th.
