Thumbs Up For Our Wastewater Treatment Plants

Public Works presented their 2018 Wastewater Treatment Plant Report to Oxford County Council.

OXFORD COUNTY - The wastewater systems across Oxford County is in good condition.

This is according to the 2018 Annual Wastewater Treatment Plant Reports, which was brought to Oxford County Council by Public Works.

Warden of Oxford County Larry Martin says a majority of the municipalities' wastewater treatment plant systems are in compliance.

"A majority of them are running at about 100%, but there was two I believe were running at about 95%, and one at about 93%, they were just minor things that were corrected, I'm going to say, within the week. So it wasn't anything major but there were just things to say they weren't 100% and those issues have been already corrected."

Warden Martin says the wastewater systems in Oxford County are in good shape.

"When we get a report like we got, it's a good report, so there's very little impact. Basically what it says is you're doing a good job and that people are safe, but if you don't get a good report, well then you have to go out and rectify the problems and the sooner, the better and quicker. It's just understandable, you can't play around with the environment."

According to the report, approximately 2,750 WWTP sewage samples were collected and analyzed in 2018. And out of the 2,750 samples, six of the nine County municipal wastewater systems achieved 100% compliance, with only one receiving 95% compliance.

The WWTP and Biosolids reports will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment.
