Anyone can call 2-1-1 for information and referrals on things like social services, mental health supports, government services and so much more.
OXFORD COUNTY - Today is National 2-1-1 day.
2-1-1 is a free service you can 24/7 call for information and referrals on things like social services, mental health supports, government services and so much more. Executive Director of United Way Oxford Kelly Gilson says a lot of people use the service locally.
"For Oxford County we had over 1,000 callers last year, so we are starting to see growth and that is amazing. United Way helps to fund 2-1-1 and locally it is a partnership with the County of Oxford, who provide background information to information Oxford and Community Employment Services. It is local groups who are working to support the larger Provincial organization, to ensure we have really good local information, to help people here in Oxford County."
Gilson says 2-1-1 is growing across the Country.
"It has all kinds of wonderful information, it is free of charge, however it is not well known. Our goal today, which is National 2-1-1 day and we are trying to get the word out. The service is available, it's free, it's convenient and for people with different languages, there are over 150 language services available through 2-1-1, so it really is this amazing service and we need to share it, so that people can think of it and it is top of mind, when they have a question about where to go for help, they will automatically remember 2-1-1."
You can also access 2-1-1 online through their portal which is available here.
