United Way Oxford is requesting monetary donations instead of physical donations this year for Supplies 4 Students.
OXFORD COUNTY - School may be almost out for summer, but for the United Way of Oxford, they are already asking for help to make next year even better.
They have started with their Supplies 4 Students program, and this year they are making a shift to focus on monetary donations instead of physical ones. Resource Development Coordinator Jennifer Belleth says this is so families can get to feel that excitement of picking out exactly what they need.
"There's an element of that feeling really good for us that it's fun to go and buy those school supplies, but let's remember that its really fun for those children to feel great about purchasing and choose and having it as their choice when they go back to school."
The program is meant to help ease the financial burden associated with going back to school for families that are facing ongoing or sudden financial difficulties. Students between JK and Grade 12 are eligible for the program.
"211 has partnered with us to allow families to call and very easily register their child for the program and then they will receive some information through email that will direct them to the opportunity to go into the store and shop."
