"How does violence against women impact individuals and our society?" That was the question residents of Oxford County were asked to answer through images last month. Co-Chair of Survivor Voices Oxford Kirsten Stevenson says they received a great response. "We got quite a few submissions from all age ranges with a lot of different perspectives on violence against women. There are some photos that are very provocative and some that are very hopeful. So it was kind of neat to see the different ranges in the photographs," said Stevenson, "Not everybody can write a paragraph on how they feel about a situation, but if you open it up to everybody and say 'express your opinions through a photograph,' that pretty much gives everybody the opportunity to express how they feel." Stevenson says they will be used to train police recruits and in future presentations to Victim Assistance Services. Some will be featured on their website, www.survivorsvoices.org, as well. The images are being unveiled on November 27th at the CAW Hall in Woodstock from 11:30am- 2:30pm. Tickets are available on their website or at the Women's Employment Resource Centre. They are $10 per person or $20 for yourself and a survivor of abuse.
