Walker say they will study the impact of it's landfill proposal on a Lake in Beachville.
"Save the Lake" has been a rally call in recent weeks for anti-landfill protesters in Oxford County.
But, according to Walker Environmental's point man on the Beachville landfill project, Joe Lyng, local residents can be assured, they will look at the lake.
The lake is a water-filled quarry on Carmeuse Lime property that has been the subject of contention by anti-landfill activists.
Lyng says it is Walker's full intention to study any potential impact a landfill in Beachville would have on the quarry. "Not to my knowledge, anyway, have we said that we weren't going to look at the lake. We will be taking a look at how our proposal could affect the local environment, including that water body, both during the operations and after the closure of the site."
Drawing even more attention to the lake on Friday, Ingersoll resident Mike Farlow went on a fishing expedition in attempt to prove aquatic life exists in the man-made lake. Farlow was called off the lake by OPP, and charged with trespassing. He was fined $65 and will have to go to court to see if he may also have to pay for the cost of the emergency response.
Lyng also tells Heart FM, he didn't think it was necessary for Farlow to trespass last week on the lake. "We want to make sure that everybody is safe, and what they do is safe. We don't think it's necessary for anyone to take those kinds of risks or any kinds or risks to put their own safety, or the safety of the community in jeopardy."
He says Walker is open to questions or issues from the public, but says it's still early in the process, and they don't have a lot of the answers people are demanding.
