It was a packed house for the WCI 75th anniversary with alumni from as far back as the 1930's.
WOODSTOCK - It was a packed house for the WCI 75th anniversary. Roughly 900 people came out to the celebrations on Friday night and another 300 people took in the Open House on Saturday. Grade 12 student Morgan Graham was in charge of the decades room during the anniversary. She tells Heart FM it was a great weekend. "It was actually awesome, it was great to see, there was a lot of variety from all the different decades which was awesome and it was just really cool to hear everyone talking about their memories from WCI and everything they really enjoyed here."
Also this weekend the school unveiled the Steve Coad Memorial Athletic Hall of Fame. Athletes from each decade of the school were honoured with a plaque on the wall. WCI wanted to honour Steve Coad who passed away in 2003 and was a sports reporter with the London Free Press. Coad was a great athlete himself and always went out of his way to honour high school athletes and make them feel important while he was a sports reporter.
WCI Principal Chris Freisen says they had alumni from the 1930's and 40's attend the event and it was a very special weekend for the school. He notes being an old school with an old building they are never going to have the newest equipment or a new age feel at the school but they have something that money can't buy which is history and that history was on display this weekend.
