Celebrations are expected over the weekend for Diwali, and the Woodstock Fire Department has a few reminders.
WOODSTOCK - Another holiday is set to be celebrated in Woodstock.
Diwali festivities are set to take place this weekend, and the Woodstock Fire Department is sending out a few reminders. Fire Chief Jeff Slager says candles and open flames are a big tradition for Diwali.
"If you're using candles, try to have them in a sturdy base. So, if we've got these long tapers, they're not going to tip over and potentially ignite some combustibles that are around them."
Slager mentions that if you are cooking for a gathering, make sure you are aware of what is going on, and to look while you cook. He also has this bit of advice for residents.
"Just a reminder to our residents that are here that the City Council has banned the use of fireworks within the city limits. So, we just ask people to respect that."
Slager says the minimum fine could be $400, and it would be charged to the homeowner if the person who set the fireworks off can't be identified.
