A local woman is being treated for hypothermia after falling through an icy pond trying to save her dog. According to police, the woman was walking her Labrador around one this afternoon when it ventured onto a pond and fell through near Oxford Road 22 and Township Road 4. That's when the woman grabbed a nearby canoe in an effort to rescue the dog though the weight of the boat sent it through the ice where it tipped over leaving her clinging to the side while the dog managed to get to land. Police were notified by the woman's nephew and when they arrived, an officer was tied to a rope attached to the canoe and was able to pull the woman to safety. Police are reminding residents that waterways are hazardous as ice begins to melt.
