Jerry Acchione had to undergo an emergency eye surgery yesterday after suffering a torn retina.
WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock City Councillor had to undergo an emergency eye surgery yesterday.
Jerry Acchione explains what happened.
"Yesterday morning, I woke up and saw a few floaties in my eye, it felt like a glob in my eye, it just wouldn't go away. Over the course of the day, my eye was bugging me more and more and the blob get getting bigger and bigger and I was losing vision in my eye rapidly. I called my doctor and she squeezed me in right away and gave me the news that I have a torn retina."
Acchione was rushed to St. Joseph's and they found a surgeon who was able to operate on him right away. The surgery happened last night. Acchione has an 80 percent chance of having his eye sight return. He is still heading to another doctor appointment today and will meet with the surgeon to see if the surgery was successful.
Acchione did want to get his message out to the public.
"If anyone starts seeing floaties in their eyes, or flashes of lights out of the corner of your eyes, that is the most common preliminary symptoms of torn retina's. If that is happening you should go to your eye doctor and have that looked at right away."
