Woodstock Hydro Exhibit Showcases Ways to Go Green

Woodstock Hydro have teamed up with the Woodstock Art Gallery to provide the public with ways of using clean energy

WOODSTOCK - An unlikely duo have teamed up to get an important message out to the public.

The Woodstock Art Gallery are currently hosting an exhibit put on by Woodstock Hydro outlining the importance of clean sources of energy.  Manager of Operations at Woodstock Hydro, Jay Heaman, explains why the two unlikely groups joined forces.  "This is the first time and it has been a great experience so far, there has been great partners and it is actually spawning other initiatives.  What we are really hoping to do is inspire people and it is an opportunity for people who come into the art gallery space to take a look at our 2 dimensional solar rooftop modelling system.  They can enter in their own address and get an idea of solar opportunities."

Showcasing Oxford County's renewable energy advancements, Heaman thinks this is an exciting time in terms of clean energy for the county.  "It is just important that people learn at their own pace and try to bring it home so people can come in.  It is nice quiet space and they can start to think about how renewable energy could integrate into their own lifestyle, and so I think it is a real encouraging time for the county.  It just seems that we have some really good leadership and credible business leaders as well that are getting behind this."

The second floor shows several pictures of renewable energy sources and how by 2030 they would like to see solar panels including in building codes.  Heaman knows that this is just the beginning of something big.  "We're creating this in this venue here and we are planning to participate in an event at the Royal Ontario Museum in the fall. They are going to showcase Oxford County, and the good things that they are doing but also the 100% renewable motion that was passed unanimously by county council so I think they're a lot of things for people in Woodstock and the County of Oxford to be proud of."  The exhibit has enjoyed overwhelming success that is free to the public and will run until the end of September.
