The Woodstock Museum is hoping to keep kids busy this Spring break with their Birdhouse Kit and contest.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Museum is launching a Birdhouse Kit and contest.
You can pre order your birdhouse kit right now until March 31st. Museum Curator Karen Houston explains what you will get for $10.
"The kit will have everything you need to make your own birdhouse, along with the instructions on how to build it. It has the walls of the birdhouse, you get the roof, you get the little dowling that the bird can sit on, it has the nails, it has everything, it even has pre drilled holes where you can put in the nails. It's very basic, even really young kids can do this with some help form their parents."
The birdhouses can be assembled with parental supervision using a hammer and scissors and can be decorated with additional materials at home.
Photos of the decorated birdhouses that are emailed to the Museum will be featured on Facebook for the contest. The contest part of this is completely voluntary. The public will then have the opportunity to vote for their favourite with different age groups as the categories.
Houston says the birdhouse were inspired by the Brick by Brick, The Heritage Architecture exhibit currently on display at the museum.
"The exhibition celebrates Woodstock’s built heritage and explores the history and architectural significance of some of the city’s oldest buildings. With the birdhouse kits and contest, children and adults can learn more about basic building techniques and have fun creating their own little piece of history."
The kits will be available for pickup between April 6th and 17th and you can find out how to order them online here.
