Woodstock's Brad Kovachik will have officiated in 1500 N-H-L games by next month.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock's Brad Kovachik will have officiated in 1,500 N-H-L games when he reaches the milestone next month.

The linesman has spent 22 years in the league, officiating games for 27 seasons.

Kovachik says he has been a referee in multiple leagues growing up, beginning as early as 12 years-old.

"I've been refereeing hockey ever since I was 12 years-old at the old Perry Street arena in Woodstock, doing the Tyke half-ice hockey, and then moving my way up even when I was playing minor hockey, I used to officiate in minor hockey as well. And when my junior hockey days where done and (you) kind of realized you weren't making it as a player, then I started officiating a little more competitively and just kind of worked its way from the OHA to the OHL and then the NHL hired me from there."

Kovachik says he will be joined by his family in a pre-game presentation by the NHL.

"The NHL does a really good job right now of recognizing milestones so before the game my family will be coming out on the ice with me on the carpet, and they'll do an NHL presentation before the game. (I'm) hoping a lot of friends and family are going to be there to spend the night and give me a chance to say thank you to them."

Kovachik will reach his milestone when Pittsburgh meets Buffalo on March 1st.
