Youth in Grades 7 to 12 have been participating in the tournament over the past 12 years, creating robots using Lego Mindstorms technology.
The Oxford Robotics Challenge is requesting a bit of funding help from County Council.
They are asking council to pony up $5,000 from the next budget for the competition, which has been held over 12 years in Oxford.
Students in Grades 7 to 12 split up into multiple teams and have to build a robot that can complete a specific job.
Woodstock Development Officer Brad Hammond explains this year's task.
"They're going to have six different pieces in different shapes and different colours that they have to sort into corresponding bins. This will require the robot to recognize the shape and colour of the object and then pick it up and place it in the correct bins."
Hammond says they use Lego Mindstorms technology.
"It includes robotic components such as a programmable brain, different sensors and electric motors. It's actually used by number of colleges and universities as a teaching tool as well to build programmable robots."
About 20 new Lego kits need to be purchased each year, costing approximately $14,000 total.
The next challenge is set to take place at Goff Hall on November 21st.
