Oxford MP Dave MacKenzie says he understands that people are frustrated with the mandates and restrictions, but he says it's time for the protestors in Ottawa to go home.
OXFORD COUNTY - The situation in Ottawa does not appear to be getting resolved anytime soon.
Truckers have camped out in the nations capital and refusing to leave. Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly says all options are on the table when it comes to ending the protest. He says calling in the military is one of several options being considered.
Local MP Dave MacKenzie says the Prime Minister hasn't been helping with the way he's handled the protest.
"I think the Prime Minister inflamed the situation with his comments. I have heard from a lot of people and I believe in the freedom of Canadians to make their opinions known and that is what the truckers did and they had a lot of support for it. They didn't have unanimous support, like a lot of the trucking industry did not support what they were doing."
MacKenzie says he emphasizes with people frustrated over mandates and restrictions but it's time to go home.
"Enough is enough, they have made their point, many of the things they were asking for couldn't be accomplished anyways."
MacKenzie says he feels for Ottawa residents caught in the middle.
"I think they have made their point and maybe it is time for them to move off the hill and go back to work and do whatever they have to do. Some people in Ottawa are certainly frustrated, the noises at night are horrendous from what I hear, the diesel fumes from the trucks they run is pretty solvent in the downtown area. I think they made their point and that is fair enough, I know a lot of people in Oxford supported them and I support them in that right to do it but I think it has come to the point where they have to move on. You see what is happening in Alberta right now and that is not a good situation."
GoFundMe has decided to pause the multi-million-dollar GoFundMe page for the Freedom Convoy. A notice on the website says the page is under review to make sure that it complies with GoFundMe's terms of service and applicable laws and regulations.
