Oxford County Ready to Crack Down on Speeding

Staff at Oxford County council are creating a master plan to try and curb speeding in the County. You will start to see measures happening right away in Innerkip, Drumbo and Bright.

INNERKIP - Oxford County is ready to crack down on speeding.

Public Works is looking at a Master Plan to try and curb speeders in our rural communities. You will start to see traffic calming measures happening right away in Drumbo, Innerkip, Bright and Huntingford. Those measures will include more OPP patrols in the area, electronic speed readers and an increase in signage. They have also created a master plan that will look at other alternative and more permanent options which could include things like more barriers to slow people down.

Resident Frank Grauer say him and his wife Sandy first brought the issue to East Zorra Tavistock council because, the speeding is getting out of hand in Innerkip.

"In talking to local community members, there is a great concern in the Village of Innerkip about excessive rates of speed and higher traffic counts. Maybe people in the community are concerned because it is unsafe, it has become a situation where cars are just speeding through and through dealing with the East Zorra Tavistock and Township council and the County of Oxford, dialoguing with those members, they have started to develop a plan that will address those concerns."

During Grauer's presentation it became clear that traffic counts and speeding is something every township is concerned about right now, especially in rural towns and Villages that have experienced rapid growth like Innerkip.

Grauer says he is thrilled to see the County take this issue seriously.

"We have read the report, we are very happy with the response and support we have gotten from the staff at EZT and the County of Oxford and we are looking forward to working with them and the Department of Public Works in giving meaningful input into the Master Plan."

Grauer says he hopes they will explore every option available to try and curb speeding in our communities.
