TILLSONBURG - The Kiwanis Club of Tillsonburg is celebrating a very special anniversary.
6 decades have passed since The Kiwanis Club first started serving the community. Member of the service club, Ron Bates, says it has been a very fulfilling 60 years.
"It is our 60th anniversary. And we're quite proud of that. And the actual anniversary for Kiwanis International is the 100th year. And I understand even President Barack Obama has mentioned that in his dealings."
A central tenet has guided the organization throughout the years - "Our main theme for donations is children. Anything to do with children," says Bates. "So we do sports sponsorships and that sort of thing, we sponsor the Children's Hospital, the Robart Institutes, actually all of our donations go towards children's activities."
Over the years they have sponsored a baseball park, Coronation Park, as well as planning and sponsoring the Christmas parade every year.
