Thames Valley Education Foundation aims to support students going back to school.
OXFORD- The Thames Valley Education Foundation along with United Way Elgin Middlesex, and The Salvation Army London Community and Family Services have once again partnered together for this year’s Best First Day community-wide backpack drive.
This year they hope to raise over 4,000 backpacks full of school supplies, up from last year's over 3,200. While the initiative has been around for over 2 decades, Thames Valley Education Foundation lead Jackie Ellefsen says, COVID economic complications have left a greater need than ever before.
“The reality is that backpacks and supplies cost money and for some families that cost is weighed against buying food, clothing, or shelter. We want to lift some of that burden and do our best to ensure that every student walks into class in September with the supplies they need to learn."
Donations are being accepted until Friday, September 2, 2022. You can find more information regarding donations, drop off locations, and volunteering online here. Families, students, and guardians that are interested in picking up a backpack should contact their school principal.
