A challenge has been issued to help raise funds for the Terry Fox Run in Woodstock this year.
WOODSTOCK - The Green Private Wealth Counsel in Woodstock is challenging local corporations to donate to the Terry Fox run this year.
They will match any corporate sponsorship up to $5,000. An anonymous donor has also stepped up and will match the donations as well. So if corporations donate $5,000 it will generate $15,000 for the Terry Fox Run.
Chris Amicucci with Green Private Wealth Counsel says they wanted to do something special to honour the memory of Bill Gillespie.
"Every single day he was doing something and that's kind of how he did everything was to raise money for it, to raise awareness, to make it the best possible event he could really."
President of Green Private Wealth Counsel says the theme for the Terry Fox Run is 20 for 20 as they try to raise $20,000 because number 20 was Bill Gillespie's basketball number.
"Bill played basketball at a high level and his number was 20 and the Lions Club thought they could raise $20,000 in memory of Bill and all the work he had done for the Terry Fox run over the years."
Green says Bill Gillespie was synonymous with the Terry Fox run in Woodstock and they really want to make this a great one in his honour.
The run is on Sunday September 18th with registration at 9 a.m. at College Ave Secondary School. You can grab pledge forms all over the city. They have them at Green Financial, RBC at Dundas and Wilson Street, TD Canada Trust at Springbank and downtown locations, CIBC at their downtown location, and the Main Attraction Hair Stylist in the Springbank Plaza and at both Scotiabanks in town. If you would like to take Green Private Wealth Counsel up on their challenge you can contact the business at 519-539-8182 or visit them at their office on Springbank Ave.
