The midway is warming up and parade participants are getting ready to celebrate Victoria Day in a big way in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - As per tradition, the City of Woodstock is doing up the long weekend in a big way.
It all starts with the World's Finest Shows midway over at Southside Park on Thursday according to Manager of Community Services Brad Janssen.
"If you check out the city of Woodstock Facebook page or website you'll find all the ride specials. So Thursday for example it's $2 a ride, Friday is bracelets for $22 and you can ride forever."
The midway opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, and at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Janssen says the big parade leaves the Fairgrounds on Monday at 10 a.m. sharp
"We're got 13 or 14 marching bands - all really good accomplished marching bands. Lots of floats, lots of Shriners, and the parade marshal this year I'm proud to announce is Pat Roberts. She was with the city for over 30 years and participated in in one way, shape or form, either organizing, judging or helping with the parade for some 28 years."
Although it's a big parade, Janssen says they are doing their best to try to keep it moving along at a good clip.
"It's going to be probably an hour long, maybe a little bit better. We'll try to eliminate any gaps - that's the thing you hear about parades, 'There was a gap here or there.' But a lot of the same participants in the parade - so they kind of know the routine."
The parade route:
Woodstock Fairgrounds
- Mackenzie St
- Right onto Dundas St
- West to Wellington St South
- Henry St West
- Finkle St
to Southside Park
